What Is a Commodity Code?
A commodity code (also called an HS code, tariff code, or trade code) is a numerical identifier used by customs authorities to categorise traded goods. The international standard is the 6-digit Harmonized System maintained by the World Customs Organisation. Individual countries extend this to 8, 10, or more digits for their own tariff schedules.
